My First Coop - An Eglu Cube

The Eglu arrived in 5 big boxes via Greyhound. I had to go pick these up at the Greyhound station which was challenging with a Camry, not a minivan! I put the biggest boxes on top of the car on my roof rack and strapped them down. It rose about 5 feet above the car so I definitely could not have driven on a freeway! I drove on city streets (very carefully) to get it all home.

The Eglu Arrives!

This is the Cube after I took everything out of the boxes to begin assembling. It took longer to assemble than I thought. Though their site says about 1-2 hours it took me 3 and I'm pretty handy!

Eglu Cube pieces before assembly

This was taken after I covered most of the cube with 1/2" hardware cloth. I have since added a layer of hardware cloth over the top as well, to prevent raccoons from sitting on top of the Eglu and reaching inside.

Our first egg!  January 24, 2010.  This beautiful specimen was laid by our Americauna, Millie.  Yay Millie!

 Millie's First Egg!

Backyard flooded after huge storm in Northern California January 2010. I had to move the coop to a higher point in the yard for now since it's sitting in a pool of water. Even with the additional layer of 1/2" hardware cloth on it the Eglu was pretty easy to move once I got it out of the 4" deep mud. It was actually harder to move the rain canopy I put up than it was to move the coop!I love the cube. It's so easy to clean, easy to move and looks cool.
