Dominique They Have A Soft Contrast Barring Of White And Black Giving Them A More Mottled Appearance Than The Single Combed Barred Rock
Dominique
They have a soft contrast barring of white and black, giving them a more mottled appearance than the single combed Barred Rock. Created by CetawinBreed Information, Comments, and Experience with breed:
The breed originated in the United Kingdom but is known as the oldest breed in America. It is a good forager, hardy, excellent layer of brown eggs. The are known for being able to lay in marginal conditions. It is also a docile and friendly bird lending it to being a great breed for backyard flocks and an excellent pet. With the introduction of the fancy breeds, its popularity waned and in the 1970's it went on the critical list of the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. However, the Dominique is making a comeback and has been upgraded to the Watch list. The Dominique is often confused with another barred breed, the Barred Rock or Barred Plymouth Rock. There are distinguishable differences between the two breeds. The Dominique has a rose comb and the Barred Rock has a single comb. The Barred Rocks' barring is more distinct and even whereas the Dominiques' may be a little off-white and a little off-black causing it to have a more mottled appearance than the Barred Rock. Dominique roosters can be quite aggressive while the hens generally are docile, friendly and quiet birds.GenderAgeThumbDescription / InformationMale
