Thought I'd write this up for easy linking to threads:

I use zipties for legbands, the really skinny ones, works for chicks and adults too.
They are about 1/8" wide and 4" long, great for tiny chicks and fine for adult birds too.

You do have to change them out as the chicks grow tho, 3 times once you get the hang of it.
Put the band on as loose as possible but tight enough so it can't slip over the foot and come off.

I have a half dozen colors and use on both legs(to denote year/age) and in multiples/combos if someone needs to be marked for some reason. Keep notes on band colors and details of bird.

I have some jewelry sized cutters that work perfect.
Side cutters for trimming tail ends absolutely flush with lock for no sharp corners exposed.
End cutters work great for cutting right thru the lock for removing zipties grown too small,

much easier than trying to get side cutter between tie and leg.

They work good for feathered feeters too, nice fit between the feather shafts.
Just the girl in back was banded to differentiate her from her sister when they were tiny.
