Maran Mama's chicken run or pen.
I have tried for 26 1/2 years of marriage to talk my husband into getting chickens. He finally let me get some after our daughter did. We started building this coop in November of 2014. They were free range until coyotes started stealing the chickens. Then we started building the run on June 5, 2015 and it was finished July 4, 2015. (He did the work. I was just a pair of extra hands and adviser.View attachment 1464311) It has a tin roof.
The coop was built of wood that my husband and his family tore out of an old house about 40 years ago and rough oak we had sawed into lumber 15 years ago.

This is the front door from the inside and this is the side view before we cut the windows.
The door knob on the front door was an old porcelain door knob that my mother put in a chicken nest when I was a preteen to try to kill chicken snakes.
My husband designed the whole thing straight out of his head. The nest boxes have hinges on the top so you can easily clean them and gather the eggs.
The roost is made of stripped pine and cedar trees.My husband stripped them with a machete while I held them still.
The windows were my idea and his design. They open from the outside except the ones over the nests and can be
closed when it gets cold or rainy. This is the side view.
The run wooden posts were made from telephone poles my husband cut with a chain saw. We put t-posts in between. We stapled and wired no climb horse fence all around. We put a 4 foot tubing gate covered with no climb fence next to the coop for ease of access and another one in the coop door to keep the goats out of the coop. This is the back door. and gates.
We built it around two trees for shade. The goats and chickens get along really well together. We ended up dividing the pen into two goat pens, but the chickens can still have use of the whole run.
We made the little pen inside the coop for the chicks that our hen hatched on June 26, 2015 when they got too big for the cage in which they were hatched. We made it out of pine 2 x 4's, no climb horse fence, and plastic safety fence. We found some of the chicks could scoot out of it without the safety fence on it.
The coop measures 14 1/2 ft x 15 ft. The run measures 33 ft x 95 ft. The chick pen measures 4 ft x 8 ft.
