We got our first little flock when they were 5 weeks old! I love photography so I have been documenting their growth. Here are some photos of our 3 girls, Pepper (Barred Rock), Ginger (Rhode Island Red), and Sydney (Black Australorp).

We decided on the names because Pepper, well, looks like pepper, but also she is the bossy fiesty one. She is the first to try new things and the others have to stay in line behind her! Ginger for obvious reasons, and Sydney since Australorps are Australian in origin. Ginger and Sydney are undecided as to who is next in the pecking order. If they are doing something new and scary, Ginger will be last, but if it is something normal and not scary, Sydney is last!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

The very first few minutes in our new home! We didn't know what to think just yet since all we knew was our brooder at the feed store.

After a few minutes we stumbled down the ramp and figured out how FUN our sand run is! Aren't our fuzzy heads adorable?
We don't like going to bed in our coop. The humans have to chase us around or give us lots of treats to get us to bed at night. Preferably grapes and tomatoes please.

Getting a bit more feathers... please excuse our awkward teenage phase.

Pepper is the fiesty one! She hogs the camera time.

We are less shy now since we looove getting treats!

Since we finally know how to coop up like champs

, we start getting some time with the door open to free range... but not so sure. We like our run. Outside is pretty scary.

Looking raptor-like, Ging...

We venture a little bit farther away from our home now. Still everything is pretty scary, if there is an airplane we must run and hide.

Aren't our fluffy butts cute...

Always watchful for those airplanes.

We found a new place to hide from airplanes to slowly extend our ranging time!

Super awkward sunbathing...

We just learned how to pick the weeds for the humans! It's pretty fun. We are really starting to look like "real chickens" now! Also trying to figure out this clucking thing.

We are getting bigger and sometimes Sydney tries to challenge Princess Pepper.

I still like to hog the camera time!

Oooh this bush looks like an interesting place to scratch around and hide...

Yes! This is our new favorite hideout from the scary airplanes! It is cozy in here and lots of mulch to pick around for yummy bugs and stuff.

We are finding new areas of the yard to range... there may be lots of yummy things in these plants!

Sydney is looking so pretty, and that tail just won't quit!

We just discovered how to get to the back yard today and found a whole new world of places to dig and bushes to hide under! The humans were weirdly excited about it. This is us walking back to the coop like professional chickens after a long day of work.

This is why we can't have nice things...

There WERE plants in this pot, now it is forever a chicken spa. We did redeem ourselves by scratching that big weed out of the ground for the humans.

We LOVE to range everywhere now! We spend all day in the yard clucking and picking at things -- only returning to the coop for some chicken feed, water, a nap or two, and of course bedtime. Pepper is leading in the "comb and wattles" department... maybe she will lay eggs first?

We love hiding under bushes. The humans sometimes can't find us!

It's hot out today, they gave us an extra water dish in the yard so we don't have to walk all the way back to the coop for water. Yea!

Is this my good side?

We're not changing a lot the last few weeks, just slowly getting fatter :)

The humans were annoying this week and made us sit on a thing called a roost for bed time. We didn't like it but after only 3 days we changed our mind!

Whatcha lookin at?

We have negotiated a peace treaty with the dog. He is trying to be a good boy in exchange for the "snacks" we leave all over the yard...

Ginger is having some molting going on but still pretty!

What is this thing?

Our first video upload to BYC! We love to take turns enjoying our "chicken spa".

They just keep telling me how pretty my tail is. The other girls don't have a booty like this :)

Sunset spaghetti squash! We didn't really eat a lot, just made a big mess all over the lawn.

For some reason the human got really excited about taking a "bench picture", whatever we just thought it was a comfy place to rest.

The next day the humans got even more excited about taking our picture when we were trying out the top of the bench. Weird humans.

More to come!!!
