We bought this "Deluxe Coop" because it was the right size for our backyard, it is very sturdy, it is made by a woman in my county, and mostly because it's just gorgeous! With the added extension, we will be housing 5 layers in it and they will very rarely range in our yard due to our little dogs and the neighbors (to whom we are keeping the chickens on the down low). It is up against our house over some buried sprinkler valve boxes, and where I used to have a storage bench, so it's mostly dirt. I layed down and leveled a perimeter of 12" pavers to discourge digging predators (like my dogs and the neighborhood possums). I painted the coop to match the house, and the trim matches our tiled roof and stamped concrete patio. I bought some vinyl flooring squares which I will lay inside to make cleaning easier. Our chicks are only a week old, so not in the coop quite yet!
