Shoreline Washington Chicken Ordinance
By: ahuff55Shoreline Washington Chicken OrdinanceAre Chickens Allowed in this location Yes Max Chickens Allowed Depends on size of coop/loft Roosters Allowed Yes Permit Required No Coop Restrictions 10' property line setback and 20' from house City/Organization Contact name City of Shoreline, Planning and Development Services: 206-801-2500, pds@shorelinewa.gov Additional Information SMC 6.05 9.05 SDC 20.30.740 20.40.120 20.40.270 20.50.020 20.50.100 International Residential Code The allowable number of chickens is based on the size of the chicken coop, aviary or loft that you have. Chicken coops must provide at least 2 cubic feet of space for each chicken, but may not be larger than 2,000 square feet in footprint. It is legal to have a rooster in Shoreline, but we recommend that you avoid keeping roosters. Be considerate and consult with your neighbors first in order to avoid noise complaints. Chickens must be kept in an enclosure at least 10 feet from any property line and 20 feet from any dwelling unit. Again, its a good idea to consult with your neighbors first. You dont want to infringe on others enjoyment of their property. Greater setbacks may be required if the enclosure is greater than 200 square feet or taller than 10 feet.
