The Burger Family Coop

We live in Central Florida, lots of mosquitos and rain!  Our Coop design includes a screened area for the chicks to forage, and an enclosed nesting box.  We love it!  And I think they do too!  It took my husband and I, 2 weekends to build.  We had leftover flagstone from a previous project, so we used it to surround the outer base to detract predators from digging under the coop.  We also extended the chicken wire 18 inches around the bottom, layed it in the dirt and covered it with the flagstones....so....if something tries to dig under it will only find wire!  We lost :( 1 of our 3 6 week old chicks the first night we put them into the coop.  Evidently the 3 chickens were sleeping up against the base of the coop (pre-12 inch boards) and a critter must have reached through the wire, pinned one of the chicks and eventually pulled it through the wire.  There was no evidence of what happened, except for flesh found on the wire where it was pulled through.  SO...the 12 inch boards went up the next day along the bottom and so far.......fingers crossed.........no other problems.

Dang! Shore purty...where's the roost?
wow that is really pretty!!
I am loving that sign! Beautiful coop :D
So Smart!!! Great for warm weather. Thanks for taking such good care of your chickies!
Love it! Great option for the tropics, I'm from Puerto Rico and rain can be troblesome, so just ad some roofing to the run or our tiny coop.
So cute , I too had issues with birds getting pulled thru the wire , now I know it is way more expensive But I use hardware cloth on all my new prodjects , so nothing can get in there and I reinforce the bottom with it also so nothing can dig under , You did a great job on that it is beautiful.
