We never intended to have Chickens, we haven't read all the books, the thought never crossed my mind.
Grandad has a farm has animals, but they are not really handlable, Especially the chickens, Japanese Bantams
1 hen and 3 roosters on the yard.
Now My Daughter in April was learning about Chicken Egg Life Cycles in K-5, and guess what, She won the Chicken Lotto
and Butterscotch came home.
Lived in the bathroom for 1 month (4 weeks 30 days 720 hours that's 43.200 minutes, 2,592,000 seconds)
there we're times in the beginning I though he was going to have to go, But I must admit now after going through all the chicks this spring
I actually miss the sounds of the chickies.
Anyway The story moves on, They had a second round of egg incubation at school due to failure
in the first hatch. Alas we win again and Gonzo comes home.
Butterscotch had already moved on to the Farm Loft when we got 3 day old Gonzo & in a couple weeks
I felt he needed a few friends, so whilst the kiddos were at school, I went and purchased some friends.
They were very excited all the new babies and colors. We soon learned 7 chickens is too much in the bathroom.
They lasted until they were a month old and then they had to go to the farm and meet their bigger bud
Butterscotch (Who at the time we thought was a she)
After a couple weeks and we figured no one was going to pick any fights, we got the big old coop cleared out and dusted
and the Flock we to their Home.
It's a new adventure each day, & my daughter the ChickenMama loves her chickies very much.
I wouldn't have expected the teensie one to be the all out farm gal, Who Knew, but it seems meant to be.
For Me it gives me another strange obsession, to get educated about, Mites, Lice, Crops, Bumblefoot, Merek's.
Luckily I have wonderful retention, & a great amount of patience most of the time.
I see our chickens can also help pay for themselves, all the while raising and learning about different breeds.

My daughter has her goals set for the next year (which is trying a few different new chickens)
My goal is to see what we get in eggs & chicks in the spring, We will be selling a little bit of both.
We're already in the process of getting a few chicks from some Silkies we have had before and were given away.
And we're to pick up a handsome rooster for our bantams (a little new bantam blood on the farm).
And I guess we can say Chicken Math Strikes, we did down size already by 3, 1 rooster & 2 chicks, Paid for Next Month's feed.
Anyway I thought I'd post our flock here and

There are 5 ducks on the yard, mallards and a mallard peking mix they don't like to be bothered by people
only to eat...The hen had 3 ducklings and we ended up rescuing one and rehoming it to rescue another lonely drake who
had lost his mate, She went to live on a large nice cattle farm about 41 miles away.
We'll add more chickies when we get some, but until then I hope you all enjoy our photos, excuse our daftness
since we're newbies, and help us to become better Poultry folk

7/17/2014 Happy 1month old bday to the Teensie Bantams in out flock
We've increased our flock, No more addition until the new babes hatch & looks like
we already have folks reserving chicks.
I went for a pair of Cochins, too late, so I saw these beauties Mille Fleur bantams 4 1/2 months old maybe
Bailey thought their spots were sort of leopard so they came home with us.
We are getting to know them a little before we name them.

Meet Marie & Pierre the Mille Fleurs
Yes they are named after Scientists we are a bunch of nerds[/[/U]B].
The girls saw chicks and was going to fill up our carrier...no no no mommy had to say...lol
we each chose a chick, (they are supposed tp be 1 - 1 1/2 weeks old)

What comes from this hatch will go up for sale or trade (unless something exquisite looking pops
