Chicken Adventure started Spring of 2012 with Reggie the Rooster (Bantam Blue-laced Red Wyandotte)and Regina (Bantam cochin x duccle mix) hen who are now off playing in the barnyard in heaven

2 chicks were bought from Grace Jr her son named them Water and Melon (White Rocks)

Grace Jr's Light Brama was a guest in our coop for several months and she was the first hen I received an egg from

Grace Jr and I put in an order for 2 Buff Orps and 5 Easter Egger chicks... when recieved most of them were sickly. Stuart (an easter egger hen named by my then 9 yr old) and Hoppy (buff orp hen) did not survive their first year. I currently still have Buff Orpington Happy 4 easter eggers ~ Lovey, Lucky, Snowball2, Shadow

Spartacus Grace Jr's buff orp roo is currently doing his job fertilizing my hens.
This spring Grace Jr kept tempting me with her purchases of new chicks from her we purchased
a Black Sex Link (Crow)
2 Silver laced wyandotts (Holly Bush & Stripes)
2 red sexlinks
(Goldie and Cheep)

Partridge rocks (taylor/ swift) Miley

and 2 older Buff Orpington pulletts EB & Pink Beret

Yesterday was the first day this spring that I got 7 eggs one from each of my hens.... I currently have 30 eggs in the incubator for my first time incubation learning experience.
So here is my current hen house chicken math...... 1 guest rooster, 7 hens, 2 (7 week old) buff orps in one pen, 5 chicks in the brooder and 30 eggs in the incubator (at least 29 seem to be viable when candled by my first time experienced eyes)..... The 30 eggs are from the buff orp rooster with the buff orp, white rock and easter egger hens.

My First Hatching Experience Diary
4/22 My first egg hatched! It was an easter egger egg.

4/24 a total of 9 eggs hatched from my first batch of 12.

One of them looks like a little chipmunk...

4/27 my second hatch happened while I was a way 5 of 8 eggs

Finally some hatching success in May,

8 fluffy butts from eggs I purchased from Grace Jr.

2016

4 chicks in the brooder, 2 incubators full of eggs due to hatch this month and placed an order for 2 turkeys, 5 hens and 2 ducks due to arrive in May....
Updated to add as of April 8th 2016 there is now a 3rd incubator running.. Me no I don't have an addiction to spring hatching. ;)
April 13 2016 The first two arrivals in the incubator

2016 Hatch#1 Incubator #1 Candled on 4/5/2016 27 good looking eggs with movement.due 4/13~ 37 eggs at lockdown/33 hatched/26 survived first week.

Hatch#2~ Incubator #2 candled 4/5/16 several blood rings/seems not as far developed as should be. Temps in incubator have been running low? Due 4/17?? had 21 friends eggs and 14 of my eggs.. temp issues throughout incubation of hers 2 hatched a day late. 1 made it to external pip and did not make it. 2 died after absobing egg yolk and internal pipping before external pipping. The eggtopsies showed most quitters are at the end of the early beginning of middle stage. There were a that made it to lockdown and didn't make it until hatch time (had absorbed no yolk). I had trouble with the incubator with maintaining proper heat/ I suspect my humidity may have been too high as well. I started hatching in 2013 and have hatched every spring since and this is my worst hatch ever. I have 2 surviviors out of 35 eggs.
