Thompsonfarm's Chicken Coop

Thompson Farm Coop Ill get started by saying that this whole coop/chickens and ducks thing started by going to tractor supply with the Boss her name is lindsay. i was there to get some horse feed and some things for the tractor, then boom we were also leaving with 20 chicks and 6 ducks. so of course she thinks that we have months till we have to worry about a coop, well to her surprise chickens in the basement with the heat on makes the house smell like a barn. so i had to kick it in high gear and build a coop first thing i did is hit the internet looking for ideas and... read more

Scrappy Chicken Tractor

Here is the chicken tractor I built out of scraps! The only thing I bought new was the chicken wire. I did buy the hinges and wheels at yard sales. Everything else we had lying around. I didn't even have to buy nails or screws because we had some left over from another project. ***WARNING*** This chicken tractor was not made to be cute or pretty. It was made to be functional and was made as cheaply as possible. I didn't follow any specific plans to build this coop. I studied all the chicken tractors  on BYC and read the comments of what people liked and didn't like... read more

My shed/coop build progress. Most of the pics are thumbnails, just to keep the page from getting to big. Here's what I hope the final product will look like! The coop will face south, and have windows on the east and south sides.  Might also put a window on the west side, haven't figured out the logistics re where it would be wrt the top of the run.  The tree on the west side will provide afternoon shade during the summer months.  Unfortunately, it's an evergreen, so it will also shade during the winter, but that's pretty much the only type of trees I have!   My... read more

Geekgurl's Chicken Coop

Welcome! I purchased coop plans online and then got to building around May 2010.  My coop is very urban in the Lake Highlands area of Dallas, TX.  All of my neighbors are older folks and many had chickens in their younger years.  The plans I purchased were for the "Garden Coop."  I was frustrated at not finding many pics of this coop built online, so I decided I would help others that were considering building this coop from the plans.  My pics are not step-by-step, but you can get a feel for the way things came together.  I would highly recommend these coop plans. ... read more

Schwartzfarmnc's Chicken Coop

This is the beginning of our Chicken Kindom of sort.  I will be posting more pics along with stories behind each picture a little later on, but for now enjoy. Planning out for the new little ones, nice hard rocky dirt.  We decided to go with a skid type foundation rather than pouring concrete or laying block, and it kept our cost down quite a bit also.  We used 2 6x8's 12 feet long treated placed them on a bed of rock for drainage. My sister in law waiting in the shade, foundation coming along very nice we used 2x10x12's treated lumber and topped the foundation... read more

We decided this Spring that we wanted a few chickens. At first, I thought we would get 10 - 12. But when I started looking a mail-ordering, the minimum was usually 25 (or the shipping was so much, it cost the same even if you ordered fewer). So 25 it is.  As their delivery date drew closer (5/2/11) I began to get anxious -- that's a lot of chicks. We started out with them in a large cardboard microwave box in our guest bathroom. After about 1 1/2 weeks, I moved them to a large rubbermade container I had (about the same size as the box). But as 2 weeks grew closer, I had... read more

KI4GOT's Small "Hoop Coop" 04.23.2011 Getting back into chickens again, I decided to plan it out a bit more than the first time around... Tractor Supply had a neat idea on their website of using a dog house, a few other people have/had 'hoop coops' I liked. My large coop I plan to do "My Way" but for now the Hoop Coop will do just fine. Once I start putting it all together (next weekend) I'll post more pics of the progress I'm making. But I already have the doghouse and plywood I plan to use, as well as the pvc electrical conduit and connectors, so all I'll have to... read more

Our First Coop

Hi all! We have been visiting this website for over about 4 months.  Our names are Domenic and Traci.  We decided a long time ago that we really wanted some chickens.  We went out and purchased our first three chicks and had a terrible time with them.  we were completely unprepared and ended up haviing to give them away to a better home.  Now this time around we knew what to expect.  Traci talked me into trying ducks this time.  I have really come to enjoy them.  We have gotten alot of awesome info from this site and has come in very handy.  We purchased three little... read more

Gertiie's Chicken Coop

This is my story. My kids all left me . Took my Grandkids with them ! I was devastated. So what better to fill the void of an empty nest, then a new nest full of chickens !! I fought with the husband for 3 weeks about getting a couple of chickens, building a small coop out of recycled materials I could gather up here and there and from around the community. I tell him I have $400.00 saved up for this project out of my own money. Finally, husband gets on board, comes up with his own design and plans, and thus begins our chicken adventure. April 15th, 2011. Day 1:  I... read more

Sore Thumb Suburbanite's Chicken Coop

Joining BYC all started with these guys: They came from Murray mcmurray Hatchery by way of some smaller subsidiary in southern California... They are 2 pilgrim goslings; Godfrey and Manfred (a straight run=2 male goslings, no eggs from these guys), one fawn&white indian runner-Earnestine, & 2 gold star laying hybrids-Bernadette and Henrietta I started on their coop when they were a week old and finished when they were 5 weeks old: I put them into their enclosure at 6 weeks (they seemed to have quite enough feathers and the weather was a balmy 65-75 during the day... read more
