Christys Coop

  • by BYC

Christy's Coop "My 3 yr old son helped Mommy make it. Although you said it took you 2 days, I just want you to know that this is My first project as a carpenter and it took me 6 days...... I had a few set backs...... like a forgotten floor brace or 2. Have you ever seen a chicken coop propped up with a grown woman laying under it putting the floor braces in??? It truly was funny and fun at the same time. With all of it said and done we got a great dog proof chicken coop." "We had fun (as my son says) measuring and cutting and putting it together. Again thanks. If not... read more

Bachelor Condo

  • by Jenski

Suburban Bachelor Condo Bantam bachelor condo made to stand beneath a tinted polycarbonate pen roof.  The bachelor pad has vinyl floors, heated interior ceiling and a breezy sun porch!  The sheltered area beneath has a vinyl floor and rear access doors.   In early Fall 2010 we found we needed some extra space in a pinch for two bantam cockerels.  We knew they would probably be here all winter, and both were "special needs" birds who were each blinded in one eye so I did not want them with my larger flock.  We decided to create a modified version of the mini coop... read more

Coop Tractor For City Gardens

My father [Amber Hartman writing] has designed a chicken coop that is the perfect size for urban gardens. This chicken coop is small enough to fit in the back of a full size pickup and yet large enough to keep a dozen chickens. It includes a simple mechanism to turn the chicken manure into liquid fertilizer and can be moved around fairly easily.... read more

Elmo's Chicken Coop

I've wanted chickens all my life, but it took some nudging from my bird loving daughter to finally make that dream a reality. A friend gave us five newly hatched Serama hybrid chicks in the spring of 2009, and now the only thing I regret is not getting chickens sooner! We live in North Texas, so the first thing I built was a summer coop/run, suited to our hot summer weather. It is 8' by 8' by 6' tall at its highest point. We call it our Tiki Coop.     I used an Easy Up enclosure kit (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E3ZQIE) because I had never... read more

Gwendellanno's Chicken Tractor And Coop

My Chicken Tractor and Coop June / July 2009 I purchased a load of cedar slabwood (that's what's left over of the tree once they make all the "good" lumber out of it that they can get) for $15 (for a huge flatbed load).  Included in it were some very rough (in various condition) 2 x 2's that I used to frame in both the tractor and the coop.  The wood is very light.  Although the 2 move separately, they are used next to each other... the chickens can get out through their door into the tractor/pen.  At night they willingly go into the coop and I close up the door. ... read more

Gsim's Chicken Coop

Taj McCluck The "v" shaped thing was part of a temporary fence made to grow grass in the run.  Notice the turbine vent on the roof. It works with the two gable vents and two full-length soffit vents to provide 6 sq ft total full-time ventilation for the coop.  Windows and pop doors provide additional ventilation for warmer weather.  On 90 + degree days, the front door is open too.  The deck and chook walkboards are built of recycled pressure treated deck boards.  Note on extreme right side is the yard hydrant.   Greetings to all who visit our web page at BYC.  We... read more

Barn Coop Page

The Farm At Whippoorwill Creek Glen, Mississippi.   Main barn and coop page.   New, updated pictures coming soon!           Here is a tour and the story of our main barn including the four chicken coops, two stables and feed room. It is roughly 32’ X 32’ and made out of at least 90% used and recycled materials. The building was originally built by my Grandfather around 40 or 45 years ago as an equipment shed to store plows, lumber and tractor parts. Over the years it had gradually became a place for everyone in the family to throw any junk... read more

Valentinebaby's Chicken Coop

Hi!  My name is Gail and I live in beautiful North Texas.  I started out in March 2009 with  4 Buff Orpingtons, 4 New Hampshire Reds and 4 Easter Eggers.  I've lost 3 to hawks, 1 to a neighbor's dog, 1 to a coyote and one to an ignorant teenager!   I designed and built (by myself!) a cedar coop complete with one etched and two stained glass windows.  I call it the "Conklin - Lawrence Huhnerhaus" in homage to my German ancestors who owned the best butcher shop in Sparkill, New York and to my husband who didn't help build, but  definitely provided the funds and supported... read more

Nazu's Chicken Coop

1/11/11 - Ruggy, my cuddly, 11 month old, white wyandotte, barren hen, passed this morning.  For the past few days, I noticed her poop was watery with green chunks. When she started hanging out in the nest box, I thought her time has come, maybe she'll lay.  When I realized that wasn't the case, I'd take her out and put her in the run with the others, but she was sluggish and her comb was dull.  I scrambled some egg and fed the 3 girls their snacks, but Ruggy couldn't eat in peace as the others would give her a peck now and then.  I then made the decision to take... read more

Building The Superrun

Here are a few photos of my current coop project- the SuperRun. The run the girls have recently been using is only 5x16 and is attached to half of my coop. I wanted something bigger but due to funds, I have been having to piece build it. Its slowly taking shape but it has to be strong to keep out the hawks and other predators in area, but give the girls plenty of room to move around.                      _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ This is my safety setup for my main entry... read more
