The 7-11 Coop / Run  Combo  Work In Progress...   After checking out some of the great coop designs here onBYC and considering the heat here in Florida I have decidedto go with an open air two-story style coop run combo...This is what I am planning to build.  10'X26'X9' tall, not all coop area just yet. My Coop Design   I changed the coop to 7' wide. 8' would have worked, it just would have been a little on the tight sideas there is a shade tree located on the left end...  As I remove the lid off this can of worms...  I have a good sized area to work with, but it has had... read more

Coop Construction Day Two 4/11/09

Coop Construction Day Two 4/11/09 Today I started on the coop front wall panels. This Alucobond material I am using is sweet to work with and the coop should last me a good long time.as this material will not rot & should be easy to keep clean too. I use a straight edge as a guide for all the cutting and routing of each piece.     The front walls and roof are done. It was about this time my neighbor asked me if I was building Simpsons Kwik E Mart. LOL !!!   I told him no I'm building a 7-11 Chicken Coop.    I will Definitely be painting it tomorrow...Nest box bottom... read more

The Backacre Coop

The Backacre CoopWhen the chicks were 7 weeks old, my husband started work on the coop for them.  He had to buy some pressure treated lumber, OSB for the walls and floor, vinyl flooring, hinges and latches.  He already had 2x4s and tin for the roof.  He also bought some wheels, so the coop can be moved.      Here's a pic of the floor and beginning frame.       He started framing with the chicken door.     He used OSB for the floor and sides.           Once the sides were on, I started painting with gray primer.  And the vinyl flooring was installed.     Dave working on... read more

A Classy A-Frame Tractor

A Classy A-Frame Chicken Tractor Hi! and welcome to my chicken tractor page. I hope you'll find some interesting ideas and inspiration from my design. I have a couple of innovations that I haven't seen in other designs like a  simple "raccoon proof" latch design, adjustable ridge-vent ventilation system, both ends fold down to accept removable nest boxes, and make it easy to clean.  Finally, a nice beefy front handle bar that makes moving it around easier, since there's room for three people!  This is a big tractor that requires either one big strong guy or two people to... read more

A West Virginia Coop

Our family bought a nice brick ranch on an acre of land.  It sits on a dead end, with 5 acres of woods to the side.  We have the perfect spot for a chicken coop behind our house.   This strip is 35 feet long, raised three feet up and has a concrete retaining wall making it 4 feet wide.  The house had a peculiar feature we were happy to inherit when we bought it at an estate auction; a room under the garage full of wood.  The man who built the house and lived in it was a contractor and he put all his leftovers and odds and ends in this dirt-floor room. It was so packed... read more

Casa De Huevos - Lux_Interior's Chicken Coop - Lots Of Pictures!

Casa De Huevos! Our Coop has finally been finished! I got the idea from another coop I found on BYC, and my boyfriend's father was able to recreate it almost exactly the same, but we did make a few changes. Enjoy! First they built the walls... Then it was time for them to go up!Then the frame for the coop floor and inside double doors was put in. The floor was also put in then, but I can't seem to find a picture of that. Then the support boards for the roof were put up, and then topped with plywood and shingles.(this was also around the time that I had started painting the... read more

Coop Layout by tackyrama

Here is the completed Coop/Barn 10/09/08.   The building is 16 x 20'. I installed a wood stove for the coldest of our Minnesota weather. This was neccessary as we will not be keeping enough chickens overwinter to keep themselves from freezing. The stove room is enclosed three sides with steel roofing with sheetrock on the ceiling. It is open on the front with a chicken wire door to let heat out and keep the chickens out also. There is a 6" board at the end of the "hall" to keep out litter. The coop does not have electricity and I do not plan on wiring it.... read more

The Girls Coop

Our Garden Coop  - 5'x12' coop for 6 chickensI am new to chickens and I had no idea on what I needed or what I was doing. In fact I talked about getting some chicks for many years. Well it finally came to pass when I found a new tractor supply store and they had spring chickens (red-sex Links) for $1.00 each. I stopped in with my wife and kids in to see them for fun . They took one look and started handing me books, feed and then they handed me 6 chicks in a box. (Talk about jumping in, I didn’t even know if we could have them in town, but we did have someone who could... read more
