Kz's Chicken Coop

THE BABY GOATS ARE HERE! Here are pictures of the baby goats.  Mom had three (!), all boys.  They are only a few hours old.  The pic of the last one was inside the house.  We did not think he was going to make it, but after Blake warmed him up for a couple of hours, he got up and started trying to stand and walk.  Now he is now out with mom and siblings!    \       A Better Hatch I just finished my first hatch with the Sportsman, and it went much better!  I hatched 12 of 18 Blue Marans eggs,  6 of 7 Easter Eggers, but only 5 of 16 Giant Cochins.  I think... read more

My Chicken Coopark

I have been working on this coop for a few weeks. Got the plans from http://catawbacoops.com/ .Very well put together and easy to follow. A lot of other stuff going on. Plus, I knew the chicks wouldn't be ready for a while.  This turned into a fun and idea provoking project (as you will see in the following pics). Pics and explanations to follow. First of all, I decided to put this coop on rebar secured, treated 4x4's. I laid down landscape cloth and then 1/2" hardware cloth then filled the space up with play sand. I decided to build the coop 10 ft long which... read more

Cackydoodledoo's Chicken Coop

Welcome to my BYC page!  I am the proud mother of 6 year old twin girls and married to a wonderful, loving and tolerant husband!!  We live in Pueblo West, Colorado which is kind of like a suburb of Pueblo if that's what you want to call it.  It's more like the desert if you ask me but I love it.  Nothing but the sound of coyotes at night.  We also have the absolute best neighbors!! I have always wanted to live on a farm since I was a kid.  I am living part of that dream now.  We currently have 25 full grown hens, a full grown rooster, 2 no name bantees(1 hen, 1... read more

Heatherberry's Chicken Coop

Our Coop   We went with a Garden Coop design with the exception of cutting it down to size. We were very pleased with the ease of assembling.  My husband made several modifications to make it our own. We stained pine for the frame and painted the hen house. There is a hole cut in the bottom of the hen house and a ladder coming down from underneath. The girls only took two nights to learn how to use it. It is so adorable to see them go up and down.  We have hardware cloth going in the ground about 8 inches or so. We have not had any predators attempt to access the... read more

Asgard Farms's Chicken Coop

Diary of a Viking Chicken Coop it all began with an Auction for Icelandic Chicken Eggs.... As these are special Chickens, they needed a special house ~ A Viking Long Coop   I  I purchased a Fast Framer Kit, designed to make a 7x8 shed with no angle cuts and a 2x4 constructiuon. I made a few changes to the design, all the lumber with the exception of the roof is preasure treated lumber & I raised the upright length to 6ft The foundation is made from reclamed 2x4's the back is raised onto cinder blocks, the front onto a 2x4, the sides rest on 2x6's dug into the... read more

Figgy's Chicken Coop

  • by Figgy

CLUB CLUCKY I started my chicken adventure with 8  5 week old Isa Browns and 2 very small chicken coops that cost a fortune, not realising that they would only use the one coop! (and the guy who sold them to must have been laughing at me) so one never got used and they all cramed into the one. I knew I had to do something quick.  Not having the ready cash I decided to use as much recycled materials as possible, and not having the experience with building anything I was more worried whatever I did build wasnt going to last, but I thought until there was more cash... read more

ZCoop Du Jour aka Buffingham Palace     I would like to thank everyone that posted pics and advice on coop construction. BYC.com contributers have been so very helpful. I stole a little something from each of you. I researched coop designs  for over a year, but did not actually start construction until my 4 buff orpingtons were on order. I did write down on paper some basic plans, I ended up modifying  the plans each step of the way. I had a lumber and hardware list when I went to the home store, but when I got there I decided to make the coop a... read more

Trictle's Chicken Coop With Plans

Attached is the design and construction of my small chicken coop.  It is based off of the recommendations given in Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens.  It is intended to house four, heavy egg layers.  I am attempting to provide year round comfort without the need of, or the worry of needing, supplemental heat during winter in the foothills of the Cascade Moutain range of the Pacific Northwest. You will find that some, small license has been taken in the actual construction as compared to the plans but on the whole it remains true to the framing plan.  I want to thank... read more

Jake1297's Chicken Coop

Here is a few pictures of our coop. The coop is 8' x 12' with a 4' x 6' addition giving us 120 sq.ft. The roof has a 12/12 pitch which allows for a loft where we store hay, shavings, feed, etc. The chickens sometimes go up in the loft to lay eggs. There is electricty in the coop for lights, water in winter, and there is also a wireless camera to check on the girls whenever we feel the urge. We made this the fall of 2009. It was made from some material from a 150 year old barn we took down the year before. The floor is part of the old barn floor, but covered with... read more
