Bayoupoules's Chicken Coop

Hello and Welcome to our BYC "Building the Coop" page. We have so enjoyed the many wonderful BYC pages and pictures that we wanted to share ours too! We are a Christian homeschooling family of three that started our chicken adventure, like many on BYC, as a school project and an addition to a more sustainable lifestyle. I am a retired x-ray tech and now a Homeschool Mom and Brian is an Electrician at the local hospital and a Navy Seabee Reservist of 25 years. When Brian started a chicken coop,. I wasn't expecting the great coop he built,. and Olivia (DD 16) and I ( and... read more

Romadfox's Chicken Coop

Fox's Log Cabin Chicken Coop   Greetings from the country! We (me, my wife, our 11 year old Maine Coon cat Olliver, and our six hens Ginger, Marry Ann, Babbs, Edwina, Lucy, and Madge) live on a small 9.25 acre piece of tree covered land in the midlands of South Carolina . We always dreamed of owning a log home and after retiring from the Air Force, we bought the land and built the cabin. We both grew up on farms and so after 22 years of living in cities and apartments, we are starting to dabble in light/hobby farming. After seeing how so many people have begun to... read more

Amenning's Chicken Coop

Coop De Ville      After moving to the county and wanting to start raising some of our own eggs and meat I decided we needed a coop.  During the design and construction, the "coop" ended up looking closer to a miniature barn.  This project has ended up taking more time and money then originally intended but I am pleased with the results.  There are still a few things that need to be finished up but I will post what has been done so far.      I have always loved the look of old barns, especially the ones with curved roofs.  I scoured the interned finding all the... read more

Franksflock's Chicken Coop

Frank's Flock We decided to get backyard chicks a year before we actually started our build.  I grew up on a farm with many animals, but my husband grew up with none.  This has been a duel project for us, however I have to start something, see it, and then do it, while my husband needs to have everything planned before he can start.  Many hours were spent on this site seeing what others had done, what worked and what didn't.  My husband began drawing up plans, I picked a spot, and off we went to the Home Depot. Basic breakdown of areas and placement of 2x4s. Side... read more

Chichen Paradise Coop

"Chichen Paradise" Coop    Above is the finished coop. Below is the description of how I got there.   1. Google Sketchup I started by researching the different coops on this site and came up with a rough idea of what I wanted. My goal was to make a coop for five chickens with a minimum of 4 feet per bird inside the coop and 10 sq ft per bird in the run. Google Sketchup is a free download and with a little bit of a learning curve I came up with the concept below. When it came time to put it together I realized some of the obvious design errors, but it at least... read more

Kruer Bantam Coop

Kruer Bantam Coop The Kruer Bantam Coop began as a simple project coop.  I had the summer off and free time on my hands.  My husband brought home a bunch of scrap 2 x 4s from work.  So I decided to try my hand at coop building, just a small one that I could sell on CL at the end of summer.  My husband is the carpenter of the family, but I have a little skill with tools, and am always game for a project.  Plus I knew that DH would answer any technical questions I might have, and lend some muscle when needed. Murphy's Law came into play of course, and between... read more

Da Chicken Bus

Da Chicken Bus Back in the early spring my dog and I found and old school bus out in my friend's woods. I got it for free and had it towed to my place where I sized it up for a serious re-fit to be used as a coop. Below are some pics and short description of the process of turning a short bus into a dee-lux chicken coop. The wife thought I was nuts, but that's already been confirmed. Soooo, with all my tools and limited carpentry skills me and my Bassetthound mix, Odie, jumped in head first with the goal of havin' us a chicken bus by gawd!!       This is how we... read more
