Minidriver's Chicken Coop Tractor - Eggs In The City

Eggs in the City  After years of planning and yearning, we're finally getting chickens! We only plan to get 2-3 three chickens, which is all that could reasonably squeeze into our tight little coop. As you can see, it's a city neighborhood with houses very close together (you can see my neighbor's house in the upper right corner of the photo). So we'll bribe 'em with eggs to keep 'em happy. No roos in such close quarters! We're planning a large pen for the girls to run around in. We bought the coop on ebay - what a surprise! It's from England and has just enough... read more

Paradise Coop

  • by Wakko

This is my large chick/duck/guinea coop. My wife refers to it as our Aviary because of how it is designed. I build this in two stages as two sections. The entire size of the Avery is 40ft x 40ft and 7ft tall.. The chicken coop inside one section is 8x6ft and 8 feet tall from the floor, however it is 2 feet off the ground. To understand how I build this. I started with 8ft pressure treated posts cemented in 10ft apart from each other. Then ran 10ft boards across the bottom base, mid section and top based on the netting height I purchased. I managed to find 72inch by 50ft... read more

Two Story Coop

Two story coop This is our first coop that we have built since we moved. We had several styles and sizes at our old place but most we are taking apart and rebuilding new here. Currently this houses my young Sebrights. It is 4 feet by 4 feet, 5 feet tall in the front and 4 feet in the back. It is not completely finished. I will be making a run for it and it needs to be moved. It's not very level where it is sitting now. We started with treated 2x4's for the legs and bottom. We used ripped 2x4's (2x2's now) for the rest of the framing. 3/8 plywood makes the... read more

Bluie's Coop And Run

  • by bluie

THE COOP IS FINALLY (almost) FINISHED! Planning started over a year ago, but actual construction started on July 7, 2008 and was more or less finished on August 12. Our babies have been in the coop since about August 3 (at about 2 weeks of age), and have been enjoying the run as well since they were 3 weeks old. There is still a little touch up painting to do, and I already broke one window, so I have to fix that, but for the most part everything is finished. My goal was to use as many existing materials around the house as possible, and to have it look really nice... read more

The Baker's Dozen Chicken Coop

The Baker's DozenSo one day my wife tells me the feed store has baby chickens and wouldn't it be wonderful to raise our own chickens.  I gave her that look, you know the one that could pierce concrete, and remind her that we know nothing about raising chickens.  She suggests that perhaps we should at least research it.  That research brought us to the most concise pool of chicken information on the web, backyardchickens.com.  That's when it happened... we were trapped by the romance of dozens of free eggs and a SIMPLE little project for our home schooled children to... read more

Coop-Construction

My coop took quite a while to build really. About a month. It was not the actual building that took so much time, it was the designing while building, and having to re-think and re-measure, re-cut, etc.I began with discarded lumber, concrete blocks, wire fencing, and a broken set of cabinets. All gathered up from the local "Bulky and Brush Pick-Up" the city has three times a year. All of us "re-cyclers/trash-pickers" are out in force, driving up and down the neighboring streets to see what can be scrounged for our latest projects.  Here is all the fun stuff I was able to... read more

The Woods Family Egg Shack

  • by vwoods

THE EGG SHACKBYTHE WOODS FAMILYThis project all got started after we brought home 10 Black Australorp chicks from the local TSC. We have had chickens in the past but encountered problems with predation by the neighbor's dog. This time we decided to build a predator proof coop and run and only allow free ranging when someone is home to supervise. I keep saying "we" and I need to clarify that. "We" means "I" thought all this up and my husband went along because he loves the kids and me and is very unselfish. He doesn't even really like chickens. He did the majority of the... read more
