Johnham's New Incubator

My IncubatorThis was my try at an incubator. I am confined to a wheelchair and had to solicit the help of my next door neighbor, Kenneth, for sawing the plywood and the big stuff. We finally got her done though. We didn't have the metal working tools to make the trays like the GQF and Dickey's have so we used Hovabator turning trays instead. Hey they do the job. We started off with a sheet of Sandeply hardwood plywood from Home Depot and four whitewood two by fours eight feet long. We ripped the two by fours to make most of the frame and tray slides. And not to forget... read more

Wine cooler incubator (Winner of the 2009 DIY incubator contest)     Hi, I'm a complete newbie from England and don't have any chooks at the moment but I'm hoping to put that right very soon. I grew up with backyard chickens many years ago and I suppose the wanting them back again has been dormant within me for many years. The reason for action at this time was prompted by my acquiring a small shed that my daughter didn't want. After the arrival of a greenhouse, she decided there was no room for the shed so I took it home and decided to make a... read more

4 Hills Cabinet Incubator

4 Hills Cabinet Incubator.Hello all. Hope this will help someone like all the great ideas on BYC have helped us. We made a small incubator 5 years ago but I did not know what I was doing. We had a very bad hatch rate so we gave up on it and started using Cochins do the work for us. After many hours brousing through the BYC pages we decided to make another go at it. I really got tired of having to wait for "Hatchity Hen" to decide to go broody. So here is what we did. We realy liked the cabinet style incubators so that's what we built.Parts list: 1/2 sheet   3/4 inch... read more

Six White Silkie Eggs Set March 15th, 2010.   This is an incubator we threw together very quickly.  A local pet store gave us the cooler from a recent shipment of live fish.  Heat Regulation - The hot water heater is the cheap one from HD mounted ~2" above a 60W bulb in a socket i scrapped out of an old lamp. Several holes were drilled on top above the eggs and several holes were drilled below the light.  Barrier b/n chicks and heat/fan - Scrap Hardware Wire sewn together with thin wire.  Tin foil was wrapped around this cage where it would block direct light on eggs. ... read more

One Mans Garbage is another Womans Incubator!Ok, here is a Mostly recycled goods Incubator, that is a snap to throw together!I manage a storage facility where we often have things left behind when people move their items out. We take these forgotten items and throw them in 3 of our garage sale units. Well about a month ago, I was rummaging through the units on a boring Snowy day, when WHAM! It was like the clouds parted, and angels sang as I stare at a glorious old wooden box. It had been stained two tone and had walls about 2 inches thick. Immediately my brain yells,... read more

Da Bator

Here is my first attempt at creating a Sportsman type Incubator    This is the Completed Project   I started by making a kitchen type cabinet w/ a shelve in it for a water dish Next I added a few small fans I had laying around and a sportsman heat source but I found out you need allot more air flow    So I added a bigger fan and put the smaller fans under the shelve to help redirect airflow because I didn't leave any space between the shelve and back for airflow. I also added a water pan with more surface area to help with humidity    I also chose to use a water heater... read more
