Jacobs Coop

JACOB'S COOP ________________________________________           Jacob is a normal 11 year old boy that loves chickens. He lives one road over from Vicki and I with his mom and 8 siblings. Jacob and Katie are the children of their mom, Rebecca. The other 7 precious ones that range from 2 years to 9 years are all either fostered or adopted.               Rebecca is a wonderful mom to all of them (don't know how she does it), and never asks for anything. Jacob, being the oldest, has many responsibilities. One of those is the care of the flock of chickens that provide... read more

The Chicken Experience

The Chicken Experience Our Coop Building Experience...   Let me start by saying this has been a pretty cool experience for my DH and I.  He has been enlisting the help of friends to finish the barn -- adding a loft, installing wiring, framing in the tack room (even wiring it for phone and Internet), plumbing for a washer, sink, and hot water tank, wiring for a dryer, installing a French drain for the wash rack....  The new "Hen Palace" became our own little project, with just a little help from a friend to hook up the wiring.  My DH had a chicken as a pet as a... read more

Justdawn's Chicken Coop

Chickendales Here is Chickendales. It is home to our 3 barred rocks (Cinderella, Jasmine, Tweety), 2 Golden Comets (Peep and Omelet), and our RIR (Minnie). They only get to free range when I am out there with them. Even though we have a 6' fence around our backyard to keep out some predators... the Hawks ignore it!  As you can see, our garden is growing up the fence. I planted things right by their coop so they would have fresh plants and stuff to grab at will as it grew through their coop. They LOVED that!   Inside area is 8x8. It has 4 nesting boxes (but they... read more

Jacobsenbd's Chicken Coop

Our First Chicken Coop!Made from reclaimed materials, mostly pallets   Our chicken adventure started spring of 2010 when we got 10 pullets.  We didn't have ANY chicken knowledge what-so-ever!  We did a lot of research on BackYardChickens.com on every aspect of keeping chickens - and still do.  Things would have been tougher if we didn't have this wonderful community.  Thank you!  Our Coop Build My husband and I aren't ones that like to plan everything out but we had a "vision" of what we'd like the coop to look like so we just jumped in and went for it. ... read more

Our First Coop - Bartholomew Country Babes

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY BABES Here are a few pictures of our COOP. I realize I went a little overboard, but if we ever decide to not have hens, we will have a nice garden shed. I am not much of a builder nor did I have any plans/blueprints to build this. I just started building. I can say the wife, daughter and weiner dog love having the girls around....   Day 1 of the process. I received a great Porter Cable cordless drill/saw kit for fathers day and decided to put it to use.. As you can see, there is hardly a flat piece of land at our home. So, everything I build, I... read more

My Chicken Coop

Before I built this 12 by 12 (outside dimensions) coop for about $200 back in 1985 when I got back into chickens after a 30-year hiatus and after living on this property for 24 yrs (there was a cobbled up horse shelter which was home to a horse my kids had when preteens on that spot previously).  There  was no plan except in my head and using previous experience building a garage, lakeside cottage and machine shed.  It is located about 50 yards downhill from the house just off a grove of deciduous trees that shade it in summer but allow sunlight in winter.  It is... read more

Ronikins's Chicken Coop

We live in southern MO near the Arkansas border. My husband and I are pretty new to the chicken world. Our flock consists of 3 rotten cats, a black lab/blue heeler mix (Violet) and 24 buff orpington pullets. MFA lost our cockerels. We're currently looking to buy a BO rooster. On to the coop. This was a sort of arbor when we bought the house. The cement pad was there with the railings on it. Some grapevines were growing on it. It seemed like the best bet for us since we didn't care about keeping the structure. Destruction! Construction! This was the first time that... read more

Myblackhen's Chicken Coop

Our Chicken Adventure (So Far ...) Hi Everyone!  We have never raised chickens before but we've got some friends who do, and we decided to give it a try!  We live in upstate New York and have an old farmhouse on about 12 acres.  The original house was built in 1775, then it was expanded sometime in the 1800's, and again in the late 1900's.  It's a very cool big, old house and we love it.  We also have a large barn and an old chicken coop ... and that is how we arrived in this forum! We've lived here for 14 years and always talked about renovating the coop and getting... read more

Ray2310's Chicken Coop

Our Chicken Coop/Garden compound. I made the floor 8x16 from 2x4 treated lumber and covered with vinyl.  Walls going up. Standard 2x4's with a treated floor plate.  Roof construction      Back door. Used for coop cleaning and added ventilation in the summer. The screen and board are easily removed with a few screws.   Roofing material is Ondura roofing panels.     Roosts and feeder I made. The feeder holds 300# of feed. Roost boards are 2x3's and yes they do use the little steps. Nesting boxes. There are hinged... read more
