Billt's Chicken Coop

  • by BillT

HI !   Welcome to Bill and Judy's Page   We have finally finished our Coop and run.   I built our coop as you would build any frame building.  We installed 4" by 4" post in the ground and framed 2" by 8" floor joist. With the floor joist finished, we put down 3/4" plywood for the floor and covered it with linoleum. The walls were made of 8' 2x4's and across the end of the building, we put 2x6 beam about 7 inches above the floor to put the studs on. This was for a place to slide the trays under the roost out for cleaning. We insulated the walls and put on a shingled roof.... read more

Mctee's Chuck Chuck House - Rchucks's Chicken Coop

McTee's Chuck-Chuck House          This project started out after having some "farm-fresh" eggs given to us by some friends.  After one bite of scrambled eggs, we (the whole family) quickly decided to get chickens.  I wanted to get full grown hens who would produce eggs immediately, but was outvoted by mom and the kids who decided we needed to raise chicks to really get the whole process of having chickens.  Mom was off to the local feed store the next day and came home with ten two day old chicks.     The pressure was on to get the coop started.  We decided to add... read more

Large Coop Project

Our Large Chicken Coop    This pic is  one of the back with my daughter posing. As you can see we ran the 2x4's like a barn instead of like normal wall studs. The reason we did this is we got a good deal on some rough cut oak, and we ran them horizontal. It actually took less 2x4's this way and with the rough cut oak, this is very solid. The building is built on skids for easy moving.  Here is pic #2 of the inside  Here is pic #3 with the 2x4 still attached to the roof holding the rafter up straight. Their is also a piece of plywood on the front that my grandpa... read more

Beccaoh's Chicken Coop

Hello from east central Ohio.Back in the 1950s my grandfather had a chicken farm called Morning Gem. He raised nearly 3000 layers in cages in a big block building, then drove around delivering eggs to homes and businesses. By the time I came along the building was a tractor shed and the chickens were gone. I can't say I would have enjoyed that type of chicken farming, though. I'm just getting into chickens for hobby and for food. This is my first experience with chickens, and I'm excited to add these creatures to my 1.7 acre home. I'm hoping to get a laying flock going... read more

The Pullet Palace - Nebjule's Chicken Coop

THE PULLET PALACE Living in western Nebraska on an acerage I mentioned to husband..."we should get chickens and have our own eggs." His reply was stern.."over my dead body will we have chickens." This past Spring my daughter and I went to the local farm supply store to pick up some supplies for our horses. The moment we walked in, I knew the store had gotten the spring chick delivery. My daughter and I peeked into the stock tanks with the fresh pine shavings and the heat lamps and the next thing I knew 5 pullets made their way into a cardboard box and into my car. I keep... read more

Angieb's Fowl Play Chicken Coop

  • by AngieB

FOWL PLAY      "No, we are not getting chickens," said my husband.  But I am persistent.  And also bribed him with a new flat panel HDTV.    "All's I want for Christmas is a Chicken Coop!" I begged.  So my construction hubby got busy.  And I am completly blown away by the results!  We spent all winter planning and researching, and could never have come up with such a great plan without www.backyardchickens.com!  Hubby started construction in the garage in October of 2009, building the coop in pieces that could be assembled when the weather broke in the spring, just in... read more

The Coop de Ville I live in Kent, WA with my 5 dogs, 2 cats, and my son and his cat on 4.5 acres.  I started thinking about adding chickens after seeing a television show about a commercial egg farm and the conditions the chickens live in.  I was sure I could raise happy, healthy chickens to produce the eggs we needed. Then I saw a sign at the local feed store announcing their upcoming "Chicks Gone Wild" event where baby chicks arrive once a week for about 2 months.  After mentioning this to my good friend and hearing how she loved the chickens she had in the past, I... read more
