Cluckingham Palace - Chicken Coop Tractor

Cluckingham Palace Our coop has been officially named!!!  A big THANK YOU to fellow BYCer The Chicken Lady for suggesting it. On to the Construction. Here is our coop in a finished state.  First thing I have to say is we are true backyard chicken keepers.  We live smack in the middle of town, a nice neighborhood in the 'burbs, with a large lot.  So the design of this coop is smallish for a real flock of backyard birds.  Plus it's posh enough to keep anyone who sees it to think it "belongs" in an average backyard living space.  It also is fairly inconspicuous,... read more

House Of Joy The Coop

  • by BWKatz

House of Joy- The Coop I knew the day I got my chicks that I needed to start on their new accomadations immediately. Although we own two acres of land for free ranging, they would never be safe due to lots of predators. We have bald eagles, hawks, owls, raccoons, and coyote in addition to your run of the mill cats and dogs. Whatever I decided on would have to be easy to maintain, easily accessible and lightweight due to personal disabilities. It also had to be inexpensive since we are on a fixed income and I wasn't sure I would be physically able to... read more

Wendyrun's Chicken Coop Tractor

Tentatively Chez Ethel and Esther (maybe the names will not suit them...) Purchased Comfy Pet model CP 047 from Ebay. Covered area inside is ~12 1/2 sq ft. My chicken book recommends 4 sq ft per chicken if outside access provided so we are within that limit but boy does it look small!! Took a little over 1 hour to assemble. The seller on Ebay noted that there were no returns allowed for minor cosmetic dings or scratches in the wood, so I decided to overlook them. Even though they did make me unhappy. Example   About 2 weeks after the coop was assembled, I noticed... read more

Suburban Chicken Tractor

Here is my Chicken Tractor.  Took general idea from the "Little Red Hen House" in this book: Chicken Coops: 45 Building Plans for Housing Your Flock by Judy Pangman.  I modified it heavily based on reading this book.  Fresh-Air Poultry Houses: The Classic Guide to Open-Front Chicken Coops for Healthier Poultry by By Prince T. WoodsI recommend both books, (checked them out from Public Library), but especially the Fresh-Air Poultry Houses.  It really reveals what you DON'T need your chicken coop to be.  Anyway, here are a few pics: Coop Framing:  6X6 Base gives us... read more

Scaredofshadows's Chicken Coop Tractor

The Fuzzbucket ExpressSo I like many BYC'ers have gotten a taste of coop fever!  So this time my idea was to build my first tractor, as my chickens will be free range during the day when I'm home and I want something I can move around and not have the chickens tear up a hunk of ground and have to build a big permanent coop and run SO the tractor... Now my idea came from seeing some challenge to build a building using 75% reusable, recycled, natural, or on hand materials. SO since I had wanted a few more chickens oh a chicken coop/tractor!  So a looksee at what I... read more

Harleyhappy's Chicken Coop Tractor

Hello, I am new to chicken keeping! I just have a few young hens that I am keeping in my Atlanta backyard. The young ladies haven't laid me an egg yet, but hopefully in a month or two they will be giving me some lovely eggs.  I don't have much construction experience, but I was able to build the following coop after buying some excellent plans from http://www.thegardencoop.com/. I made a few modifications of my own, and also added an attachable extra run. The hens were happy in the ark, but they seem a bit happier with the run.       read more

Tndadx4's Chicken Coop Tractor

Hello and Welcome to TNDadx4's Lessons Learned Chicken Page!   We are new to raising chickens as we were just given 6 Araucana (Easter Egg) chickens. It is a personal goal of mine to try to live as self-sufficient and as simply as possible. I hope by sharing some information that others will be helped by what I've learned. I am also going to beposting pictures of the chicken tractor that the kids and I built over the course of a few weekends.   The picture to the left is the very first eggs that we got from our new hens. We brought them home late (about 10PM)... read more
