Feedstorechicks Mini Coop

Feedstorechick's Mini CoopHere is a simple coop with run design that can be used to house a pair of bantams or as a grow out pen for chicks           Click on any of the thumbnail photos above for a larger view. Overall these "Mini Coops" are 4' x 8'. They are made in two parts. The house is 2' x not quite 4' wide. The wire run is 6' x 4'. As you can see in the third photo from the left, the house slides between the 2x4 runners to make the unit. Once in place, a single screw goes behind the little filler board on the house into the 2x4 runner to keep the house tight... read more

Tmb3fan's Chicken Coop Tractor

I have 5 chicken tractors that I move biweekly. Most of my chickens free range during the day and return to their tractors at night for feeding. I have nest boxes in 3 of the tractors and I will be building boxes for the other 2 very soon. As you can see, most of mine are open air type because we live in central Mississippi. We only have a handful of cold days, so heat is a bigger concern.    These were my first 2 tractors based on designs I had seen on BYC and some other sites. Most of the designs I saw used wood for the runs, but I was trying to lighten the load, so I... read more

Elwar's Chicken Coop Tractor

  • by Elwar

Ok, I started my chicken run/tractor. It's 4'X8'X3H  This is where the run will end up.  The dogs watched but weren't much help.  Got it standing and added some supports for stability. Door frame for connector to the raised coop. Painted before the hardware cloth goes on. added a hinged opening hardware cloth on, roof and ramp added Was about to add the wheels but the bolts were too short. I took pictures with my other phone of the coop construction...I'll get those eventuallyHere's the inside with the perch and vynl layed down.I have three open sides with each side able... read more

Scraps Tractor

"A tractor from scraps I had lying around"     This was built to quarantine a grown pair of turkeys, but I expect to use it next year as a grow-out pen or maybe for some meat birds. It's not meant for northern winters, but would be ok year-round in a very mild climate. Dimensions are 8'x8', and 4' high in the middle - pretty easy to walk around and work inside as long as you don't mind bending over. It is too heavy for one person to lift completely off the ground but I can drag it fairly easily and with a second person it'd be very easy to move. My goal here was not to... read more

The John Deere Chicken Tractor

  • by Matoe

The John Deere Chicken Tractor         Started building my coop in Febuary of this year now it is July 10 and almost finished. I liked the chicken tractor idea. So I took it and ran to the hardware store and spent more money than I should have but chickens are not cheep. Took a old boat trailer stripped it put 12' 4x4 treated on it and went up from there. Floored with 2x4 on 2' centers (needed to be 16" centers). Picked up 2 nice windows from habitat for humanity, screened with heavy duty cement wire mesh. Did the same for a sliding screen door. Roof was tough to... read more

Banty Tractor

My Banty Tractor      Not too long ago, I saw an ad on Craigslist.com for 3 bantams for sale. I sent that person an email and I got started on a coop for them. I was getting 2 hens and 1 rooster. The dimensions of the coop are 5 ft tall at the peak of the roof, 3 ft wide, and 5 ft long. This is what the frame started out as-The window framing (which we decided to put in after the frame was done)-   The ramp-The ramp installed and looking at the ground-  The finished product- And the residents-   Thanks for looking! Azelgin's Chicken Coop Tractor

This is my 2nd attempt at a chicken tractor.  the first one was OK, but needed a few changes.  This is the first one I built for Bob:A few changes that were needed, were the addition of a nest box, move the access door to the center, handles for easier moving, a place for the waterer, wider and shorter for fitting in the back of a pickup truck. The new design has a 4 x 8 floor plan foot print, so it can be hauled in the back of my truck.  The handles are part of the roof framing that extend past the roofing.  Skids on the right side are the wall framing extended past to... read more

Chicken Tractor The Third

Chicken Tractor the Third: The Hyperion  It feels like I've been working on the third chicken tractor for years. Even though, checking through my blog archives, it's only been a month. I probably would have finished it sooner, except that I broke my wrist halfway through, and had to complete construction with just my left hand. But it turns out that carpentry is just like knitting. If you work on it for half an hour a day after work, eventually it gets done. Many trips to Home Depot were required, much mosquito repellent was applied, and I accumulated more sawdust... read more
