Temporary Tractor

My Temporary TractorHi, thought I might in introduce myself. I am new to chickens. My twins brought home 2 from the first grade. I don't know what kind they are. Tyson gave a bunch of eggs and incubators to the first grade to hatch as a project. My tractor/brooder is a scavenged shopping cart holder from Dollar general. I built a plywood box with a hinged roof, put a light in and cut the legs off. We put the chicks in, they seem to be pretty happy with there new home. My kids are having a ball with them. I am going to try and post some pics of the first brooder and my... read more

Chicken Tractor Too

Chicken TractorSubmitted by Marcher19 from our message forumfor more info on this design please send email to EDLUP@hotmail.comBasic size: 4'L X 3'W X 3'H, Pen 8'L X 3'W X 3'HThe basic dimensions are 3ft wide by 4ft long - the front is 30" high and the back is 36". The legs are continuous and used as part of the whole frame. The pitch of the roof is about 10 degrees. NOTE: If I had to do it over again I would pitch the roof reversed so the water runs off the back.I framed it out with 2 x 4's. The bottom frame has the 2 x 4 laying on the side so I can rest the floor board... read more

Kim's Chicken Tractor

  • by BYC

Chicken TractorSubmitted by Kim in Tulsa, OklahomaHere are some pictures of my tractor. It is 4' x 6' and has one nest box. It is covered over the nest box and over 1/3rd of the run with metal roofing, which is held on with wing nuts and can easily be undone and lifted up. It has shade cloth over the other 2/3rds (to be replaced with tarp in the winter), which is also "hooked" on, and can be easily lifted up. It has a cross bar to attach a hanging waterer to and the feeder will go in the enclosed area.It will likely be a bit small for our four chickens (would be perfect... read more

Tororider's Chicken Coop Tractor

Well, here is my humble "urban" coop/run.  I started out by building the run as my chickens needed someplace bigger to be, outside of their brooder.  I was lucky enough to have a near endless supply of 2"x4"'s as we have torn down some walls at a pole barn recently.  I also found some 1"x10" boards that I was able to use for the exterior siding.  This helped me keep to my goal of spending as little as possible on this project.  It should house my three hens no problem, with room for one, maybe two, more.I started by just building a box on the ground out of pressure... read more

Minidriver's Chicken Coop Tractor - Eggs In The City

Eggs in the City  After years of planning and yearning, we're finally getting chickens! We only plan to get 2-3 three chickens, which is all that could reasonably squeeze into our tight little coop. As you can see, it's a city neighborhood with houses very close together (you can see my neighbor's house in the upper right corner of the photo). So we'll bribe 'em with eggs to keep 'em happy. No roos in such close quarters! We're planning a large pen for the girls to run around in. We bought the coop on ebay - what a surprise! It's from England and has just enough... read more

Moselle's Chicken Coop Tractor

Our Flock-of-Sillies Little Margaret (Del), Emily (BO), Rythe (Austr), Fluffy the Elusive (EE), Rhoda (RIR), Mary (RIR), and Sweetie "BoBo Chicken" (BR).Building the coop... Here's the frame 5'Wx8'Dx5'H.  The section with the henhouse is actually 6" taller to allow for a sloping roof. The 2x4s were routed at their joining points to fit together (like lincoln logs.)They used a jigsaw to cut windows and doors into the sides.  The attached wheels to the base, and everything is being painted with white barn paint.  More sides added, (we used 1/2" plywood).  Windows are... read more

Chickent Tractor Coop

Here is the chickens' summer home. The 'run' part is 4' wide by  7' long, 30" high in the tall portion and 20" under the house. The house itself has a 4' x 2'6"  footprint and gives the chickens up to 3'3" of height inside. The house is easily detachable from the pen, and the roof is detachable from the house.      Ah yes, the roof... a thoroughly embarrassing construction of 1/2" plywood over which is stapled a, um, er, a discarded heavy-duty clear vinyl shower curtain. Go on, laugh. All I can say in my defense is that it's a last-minute substitution for the... read more

The Portable Chicken Coop

The Portable Coop!   I wanted to make a portable Coop that we could move around the property so that the chickens would have fresh ground to live on every few days. I started construction in our small one stall garage out in the shop. We only plan for it to house a maximum of 5-6 standard chickens. It is approximately 5x3.     With 100+ temps during the day, I worked on the coop mostly at night or early morning. Most of the structure was made with newly treated 2x2x42" which were only $1.09 each from Lowes/Home Depot, I used about $25 dollars worth... read more
