Chicken Breed History:

The Cornish originates from Cornwall, England, where they were also known as Indian Game. White Cornish were produced in 1890. Red Cornish were produced in America in 1893. This breed is valuable in the poultry meat industry as males can reach 10 1/2lb and a hen 8lb. They are poor egg layers, laying 80-100 eggs a year and the colour of their shells are brown. During very cold days they need adequate protection,as their feathers are thin, also meaning they cant cover many eggs when they brood.

Chicken Breed Comments / Experience:

I found mine put on weight, ate a lot, and lay on the ground most of the day. In the time I had them, which was a matter of months, they laid two eggs, both of which were soft-shelled. They can be processed at 8 weeks old, as they are very good table birds. They are quiet and calm, they can also be easily approached. They will eat a lot of feed. They are ideal for frying and are broilers. They need substantial amounts of feed. ***Awaiting Pics*** Thanks to gb1 and Kassy68
