My flock has had a mature rooster for 7 months now (he was 1.5 yrs old when put in, the 15 hens were 6 months old, and I added another 12 3 yr-old hens when I added the roo). All is well there, and he's been doing a decent job with a 90% fertility rate. But I am growing my layer flock to 100, and got 2 more 3 week old roosters who are now nearly 10 weeks old.
So, here's my dilemma. These roosters are going to stay in my young flock run until they can go into the main coop. But I am about to add 4 week olds to the young flock run.
I am worried that at some point the 2 young roos are going to be too old to be with young birds, but too young to go into the main flock with the now 2 yr-old master roo.
Suggestions? Observations?
