What's an ovation?

What is an ovation? When are they appropriate to give? I don't know about these labels (mine say out of the brooder?) or the ovations or much of the community features.

An ovation is a way of telling a poster you liked what they posted and found it helpful. You can give one by clicking on the little green thumbs up button in the lower right of a post.

For example, you can find the info on user titles and when they change (it's based on the number of posts).
