I know you need grit for quail. Do you put yours in a separate container from the food? If so what do you use? Also what size grit seems to work best?

Thank You,

You only need grit if you feed them seeds. If their diet is pellets - as recommended - like game bird feed or similar, it's water soluble and grit isn't necessary. I'd probably just put the grit in the sand bath and I'd use a regular bird grit from a pet shop..

DK newbie,
Thanks, I didn't realize that at all. I thought they always needed grit, but I guess that's more for the ones in the wild. Do you have a particular pellet that you recommend?

Thank you from an even newer newbie,

I'm in Denmark, so my choice of feed is not available in the US (where I assume you are located). I do hear the brand 'Purina' mentioned very often on this forum though. Apparently they make some kind of gamebird feed with 28 or 30 % protein - that's even more than the quail need, so you can supplement them with feed that is lower in protein if you want to.
