No offense intended, but that comparison is equivalent to comparing apples to potatoes.
Of course hardware cloth is superior to chicken wire. It is also many times more EXPENSIVE.. Certain things that only need to keep chickens in or out are fine with chicken wire. For predator protection hardware cloth is recommended as well as required. Chicken wire will only keep out lite duty predators. Hawks, Owls, small Snakes and some others. Heavy duty predators like raccoons, and such, need to be kept out using hardware cloth.
