Three Week Silkie Digs In Her Food! Help!

She's a tiny little girl with a tiny beak. So is she digging in her food bowl to find small pieces? She pecks, eats, then digs again! Should I crush the starter for her? Or is this normal?

Thanks! I didn't want it to be hard for her to eat but now I know she's just being wasteful. I also know that they LOVE to tip their food bowl and spilling the starter everywhere. (I'm looking at you Cochins)
