I live in Louisiana and would like to vaccinate my emu. If I understand correctly, I need to vaccinate for:
1. West Nile Virus (WNV)
2. Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE)
3. Western Equine Encephalitis (WEE)
Vaccines produced for equine are recommended. Emu receive the full/same dose as horses in the thigh muscle. For the WEE and EEE, emu get 3 injections 3-4 weeks apart the first year. In later years they get two injections, one in spring and one in fall.
Questions
1. For WNV, what is the routine? One injection? Are there subsequent boosters for WNV?
2. Are there any other diseases I should vaccinate for? If so, how? What is the routine?
3. Any other advice?
