Chicken an duck lay egg shell only

Can someone explain to me why both one of my young hens and one of my mature ducks have what looks like an egg shell coming out of them? We gently pulled it out while rinsing their back ends off. It looks like a soft long egg shell with nothing inside it. Is there something wrong with their diet? What do I need to do?

It is likely a meat or lash egg. Not common but also not good.

I looked up "lash" egg and that isn't what this looks like. it looks like a crushed eggshell that is still in tact but it's soft and has nothing in it. Like the texture of a corn husk?
