We have an egg allergy in the household so have been keeping ducks for the eggs. As some of ours are more than 2.5 now, we find some aren't laying at all. We won't continue to feed them, but am wondering about whether the meat will be any good at all. We've only ever processed/eaten our 4-6 month olds (drakes become freezer ducks). Are they like beef that can just cook longer/slower or does that not work with duck?

I know older chickens can be butchered and cooked. Like you said, you just have to cook them low and slow. I assume it's the same for ducks. You can always test one. If the meat isn't to your liking you can always just make stock and feed the meat to the dog and cat.
