has pipped but can't see beak

hello, my duck has pipped and knocked some of it's shell off but i don't see a beak. it's just like a grey looking surface. it is still moving around a lot in the egg and trying to break through. should i be helping or letting it do it's thing? thanks.

I think you should leave it alone for now. Normal hatches can easily take over 24 hours.

okay, so sometimes that is normal? it is moving around a lot. so maybe it's just part of the process?

Give it some time then, in the case of no progress in 24 hours, get involved slowly and gently. peel away small bits of shell ensuring the membrane stays wet so it doesn't stick to the baby. Do this slowly!
