Chicken behavior normal or stressed?

We had a chicken happen to us, so we built her a coop, cleaned up the backyard and got her in the coop. We had been letting her out every morning but then she wandered off for several days and came back. We decided to keep her in the coop for a while so that she knew it was home. It has been 3 days and she is attacking the coop come dusk and just tried to make a run for it.

I guess my question is will she calm down? Are we just being mean to her? She was a free range chicken before and I wouldn't mind letting her be again I just don't want her to disappear the second she is let out again.

Any advice welcome!

Oh! She is a barnvelder and the longest she has disappeared is for a week before coming back.

It will take about a month with a Chicken not used to being housed to think that the new set up is home...Get her used to your voice and in time she should not wander...Lock her in for at least a month...

That is good to know! I talk to her every time I am outside so that probably helps. Thanks for the info.
