Hello.
I've tried to find the answer in here and wasn't successful so I'll just ask it.
I read that you don't have to trim your chicken's nails if they free range and get to scratch at stuff and wear them down. But is there anything else you can do to help it along ?
Like put a brick or two in the run for them to walk on. Or a not too rough sandpaper on the coop ramp to help with traction and nail managing? Or would this hurt their feet?
Any other ideas?

Busy healthy chickens who range on dirt/ sand/ concrete will wear their nails just fine. One of my old arthritic hens didn't, and needed an occasional nail trim. It's obvious that the nails are too long, and if necessary, do the deed at night when the bird is on the roost and quiet, not after a chase around the yard! Mary

Nix on the sandpapered ramps...probably do more harm to feet than help for nails..
Just keep an eye on feet and nails.
