Can they be sexed early? I have 3 wheaten/blue wheaten babies that are 3-4 days old. 2 are feathering much more than the third is, and the wing feathers have dark bands on them. 2 chicks are also more of a buff coloring while the third is yellow.

When they are baby's hatcheries sex them by checking the wing. If both rows are the same length its a male if they are different lengths it is a female check it out

Feathering sexing doesn't work on all breeds. You'll have to wait and see

Hi Sara,

As a Wheaten & Blue Wheaten breeder, I can tell you unequivocably that they can NOT be sexed by color. In fact, sometimes you will even have a hard time telling the Wheaten from the Blue Wheaten apart.

If you go to the "Ameraucanas" album on my website I believe I still have several pictures of my Ameraucanas through their development. If I remember correctly it was about 6 weeks before I could tell for sure which ones were going to be the cockerels and the Wheaten males were obviously easier to distinguish from the Blue Wheatens.

So where did you get your birds from?

God Bless,
