i am getting 15 JMF jumbos next week.
i have built an incubator and brooder with stuff out of my garage.
i will convert 36x30x18 inch rabbit cage to house them in.
rabbits are a PITA.
i have possums around the house, i do not think they will kill my quail, unless they go panic mode on me.
looking to at least get one roo and 4/5 hens.
i have automatic nipple water system
i have been lurking around this site for months.
thanks to all that have asked questions and to the responders.

happy quailin.

FYI, possums WILL kill your quail. They are like any other wild animal, and are "opportunity eaters"... if the opportunity presents itself, they will eat what's available. I also agree with your statement, but I spell it "PETA" (People Eaty Tasty Animals)

. yeah, I know what you meant. Also, good luck with your ratio... my first hatch of 15 eggs (from a breeder which will remain un-named) I ended up with 2 males, ZERO hens. My most recent hatch from JMF, I ended up with 22 hens and 8 roos. I will never get any eggs unless they are from JMF. Period.

well i have 8 cot chicks out of the 15 i paid for.
i had 10 that hatched but 2 did not make it.
i kinda surprised myself, i think the results are good, for a first timer.

i will get another batch probably in about 3 weeks.
all look healthy, eating, drinking, and pooping.

my fan in my incubator went out towards the end of lockdown.
i think i will try incubating with no fan, next time.

i turned by hand with eggs in a egg shipping medium.
and not always on time.

for those that are thinking about incubating, just do it.

if i can anyone can.

i hatched my second batch of JMF quail eggs - 85% hatch rate - i have 16 quail at this time.

from my first batch i only have a hen and a rooster. my hen has not laid any eggs.
i keep my hen and rooster in separate cages.

my questions is should i process this hen and roo and just go with the new hatch?
they hatched on November 1.

they are both fine specimens of a quail, good breeding stock IMHO.
thanks JMF.

happy quailing

If your hen has not laid an egg... it's time to introduce the kitchen sizzors to her neck.
