Gambel's Quail -- mites?

My Gambel's Quail -- Coco -- was hatched in a very shallow nest made in some hay in the carport. Gambel's are up and running around within a short time after hatching, and I am wondering if they can get bird mites that quickly from association with the parents?

Reason I ask is because he scratches his head a fair amount ... he is grooming frequently ... and sometimes I spot a teensy moving dot on my computer screen (and Coco does play on my computer desk).

Should I treat him for mites just to be on the safe side? If so, what would be safe to use?

I hatch a lot of little Gambels but have never had that problem. I guess it could be mites or maybe just dryness. I would be very careful of what medication, if any, you use on the little guy. They are very sensitive.
