Hello,

One of my 7 week-old bronze turkeys has a hole in the head behind the ear. Otherwise, it looks and behaves normally. Doesn't seem to be affected by it and it is not being pecked on by other turkeys. The hole has clean edges and the inside doesn't seem infected. It looks like blackened dead tissue.

Any ideas? Should I be alarmed?

I also think you should get that checked out.

I always get things like this checked out by a vet. It is always the best option.
There for a bit, I thought I was on a fish forum, LOL! I was about to comment that it is common in the Oscar fish to get Hole in the Head and Lateral Line Erosion. I was then going to tell you to post all of your tank parameters, what you fed and to do a water change. Ugh. Darn fish.

Last update:

The vet's best guess (she didn't want me to bring the turkey to the clinic!) : a congenital anomaly where there is a second opening to the ear hole. She says to keep an eye open for infections but otherwise there shouldn't be any problems. Only 10 more weeks to go before the big day.
