Last night I noticed one of my hens was not perched and then today when I let everyone else out she came wobbling towards me. I checked her out and noticed she smelt awful! I looked under her feathers and found a big pussy scab. I cleaned it off with hydrogen peroxide and it looks swollen in the area. I have no idea what could be causing this! Anyone else ever experience this

Breast blisters can be common in chickens who lie on the ground instead of perching, sometimes from diseases such as mycoplasma synoviae, which can affect the bones and joints. Those breast blisters may abscess, and can contain staph or strep. MS is actually a respiratory disease similar to MG, but it effects bones. That is not the only reason that chickens develop breast blisters, though, and it could also be a cyst or an injury.

He are some links about MS or mycoplasma synoviae, and if you think that it sounds like what you are seeing, I would probably take her to the vet. She may need treated with Tylan 50 given by injection for the MS, and the breast abscess may need lancing or penicillin (procaine penicillin G, which is refrigerated at the feed stores.) A vet could prescribe a single antibiotic, making it more simple to treat. It's difficult to diagnose the exact cause of her lameness, but testing can be done for MS by your local dept. of agriculture or USDA. Here are the links to read:
