does anyone know if its safe for chickens to use cedar chips on the floor of the coop? I have heard that the oil in the wood is bad for chickens but then I heard its fine. if anyone could let me know I would appreciate it. I have access to free cedar chips but don't want to hurt any of my birds!

I've also heard cedar shavings mess with chickens' respiratory systems, I use pine shavings on top of hay, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Cedar is bad for reptiles and birds. The oils in it cause skin irritation.

It's not dangerous enough to need to worry about having cedar around, say as mulch in an area of the yard chickens have access to. Because they will just stay away from it.

However it's not good to keep them trapped with it, like in a coop or run.
