I'm getting hens for the first time and ages are 5 weeks to 6 months old. 5 week old hens are blue cooper Marans. Do they need extra heating.? Or do we just put leaves or something in the coop to help keep floor warm.

Congrats on your birds! They should be fine without extra heat. As long as
the young ones are "zipped up" the front of their breasts with feathers,
they will be fine without extra heat. I use wood chips I get from
Tractor Supply in my coop. The ones in the white bale. Work great and
smell nice.
Best Regards,
Karen

Thanks Karen. Our young Marans are not "zipped up". But we got them an extra box filled with pine shavings and a lamp. And we did our floor with pine shavings and dried leaves and pine needles. We want it to be all natural for our compost for our garden next year. We so excited for our birds be we get them all tonight
