My first egg!!!

Hello everyone,
I went to let the duckies out this morning and found an egg in the coop!
I was absolutely thrilled and gave Sybil a big hug.
Now she las laid one, will it be a daily thing?
Also... she is a Cayuga duck and I thought they laid black eggs but she laid a white one?

Congrats!! I'm still waiting on the first egg from my female Cayuga, but she's not quite 5 months old yet. How old is yours?

Cayuga eggs very alot in color. I read that their eggs can start off black, then slowly fade to gray or greenish as the laying season progresses, but they can also be a cream color sometimes. I've seen all of these colors in the Cayuga eggs I had shipped to me this past summer to start my flock, so I've seen this is true. Maybe since it's her first egg it lacks the strong black color they can sometimes have? At any rate, cream is one of the normal colors of Cayuga eggs, so I don't see anything out of the ordinary here.

Thank you for the reply! Atleast I know its nothing to be worried about.
Maybe her next one will be black.. I will let you know.
She is about 36 weeks.. I wonder why it has taken her this long? Maybe she was being lazy! haha

No problem! Yeah, I don't really know myself when Cayugas tend to start laying, but as long as she gives me some (fertile) eggs by spring I will be happy.
