Seems as if I have a hen that has contracted Fowl Pox!! Noticed her left eye was closed during inspection last Saturday...and then I asked my good friend Google, about "one eye closed in chickens" and the first thing that came up was Fowl Pox!
After much reading and research, I came to do a closer inspection of her....and yes, she had POX on her waddles & comb!
I ran to the feed store to get their take on the situation and they agreed that it was Fowl Pox!
We live in Florida, and since this is a mosquito borne virus...I am sure this is correct!
I then washed her face and applied a non steroridal ointment and let her go. She is eating and drinking like normal.
I have 5 other hens and none of the others are showing symptoms!
I have been treating her everyday with a warm water comb and waddles wash and ointment, and she has since taken to the coop during the day...off and on, to sleep I am thinking.
Tonight, I brought them some treats, and she came out of the coop, and was bullied by the others!
She is looking a bit thin, even though she is eating...tomorrow I am thinking I need to isolate her from the flock to be able to monitor her a bit closer. Just not sure if I sure isolate her in a cage within the run, so she doesn't feel "ousted" from the rest of the flock, or if I should completely remove her!
I have read the thread about Fowl Pox, and this was not mentioned...so I am asking for opinions, on what my next step should be!
