I have just bought some chickens and set up the coop in a perfect spot in between the garage and the fence , the ground is stones and earth and I plan on a deep compost set up however the coop and run are mostly shaded apart from a few spots of sun and I'm concerned that it's not enough sun. They can be let out in the garden for a bit on a night.

Where are you located?

In a temperate or tropical climate, a shady spot is perfect.
Where I live it ranges from a low of -20 F in winter to a high of 110+F in summer.
Chickens die from heat not cold. A sunny spot doesn't do the chickens any good at 3AM in the dead of winter but can fry them at 3PM in the heat of summer.

They do like to dust bathe in a sunny spot occasionally but they really don't like to hang out in the sun very much.
