Can someone tell me the ratio of Epsom salt and water? What kind of charcoal and ratio???
I have a drake that acts like he is totally drunk. his coordination is nil. He cannot stand to preen himself or even eat.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on with the duck.
In the past years I have adult ducks to die the same way. It is so far and few between.

HELP !!!!!!

Sounds like possibly botulism.

Here are the recipes.

The charcoal is food grade activated charcoal. It can be found in supplement sections of some pharmacies and health food stores, places like GNC perhaps. Not the briquettes for cooking out, those are poisonous.

The Epsom salt is to give the duck diarrhea and send the botulism out of the body. It needs to be followed with fresh water. The charcoal absorbs toxins that may remain after the flush. Some people just do the charcoal.

But lots of fresh water available is important, too. If there is a vet close by that is good, but I would not delay treatment.

I read about Botulism I truly believe my duck does not have that. My duck has had this for a few days already. One duck died seven days after showing symptoms. With botulism the end comes quickly.
I will try the salt and charcoal. I will get ahold of the vet Monday.

How much Epsom Salt? Do you just give the duck the salt and chase it with water? I am sorry I am new at this but I want to save my duck if at all possible...

When I do an Epson salt flush I usually just put a teaspoon in 8 ounces of water and then give the bird it free choice or 5 millilitres with a little injectable mouth syringe. I can't remember but I know there's a few deficiencies that can cause symptoms that sound similar... Should be easy to increase the amount of vitamin C if that's what it is... maybe you could add one of those vitamin supplements the soluble kind for ducks and chickens...

Okay this is about deficiencies, it's a bit long but I think this is where I got the information thats making me think it's a vitamin deficiency
