chickens are a gateway

So the other day when I was purchasing my chicks, I had someone tell me that chickens are a gateway livestock, basically that once you start with chickens it basically turns into a full blown farm within a couple year. Does anyone think this is true?

Sometimes it is. It depends on a number of factors; the individual personality, the reason for getting chickens to begin with, the amount of resources the person has to put into other poultry or livestock, etc.

Yes. I have chickens. Now I really want a cow and some goats. The people down the road have pigs and I'd love to be able to raise our own pork to.
