Two of my silkies have been broody for a while now. I gave them a couple of eggs to try as they are new to sitting.
Two hens are sharing three eggs. At 7 days I candled and had one clear that I tossed. Today makes day 11 and this morning I found one of the marked eggs they have been sitting on for 11 days over next to the waterer that's 5 feet from the nest. It was cold but I put it under them anyway. Why would they roll it out in the middle of the night and does this mean something was wrong with it? Any chance the chick is still living? I hate loosing them after you've seen them moving around!

Two hens setting the same nest frequently causes problems with eggs being knocked out of the nest as they jostle around. Depending upon how cold and for how long it was cold, the egg may very well be viable.

Thanks. I put it back under her this morning but it was cold to the touch and it was 30 degrees here. I'll candle again at 14 days and hope its moving.
