Clipping Wings

Considering getting a couple Guineas too protect my flock from predators. Reading about how they can fly has me worried about them getting out of run area and meeting up with my German Shorthair. Can I clip their wings so they can't fly?

I read that you can pinion their wings at one week of age this involves cutting the wing completely off at the first joint be advised this could be detrimental to their ability to escape from predators

If you have the space for them to roam consider a small flock of them they have strength in numbers and produce a lot of eggs if you can find them. mother earth news has a good article concerning guinea fowl.

They can easily fly away from the dog and you can train them to return to your roost in the evening
