Meyer Hatchery

What is your experience with meyer hatchery.  They seem to have some good deals, and was interested if anyone has ordered from them?  Thank you!

Re: Meyer Hatchery

I've had great success with Meyer Hatchery.  Out of 3 orders, only 1 bird died (two days after I received shipment).

Really fast shipment and nice people to deal with.  I'll use them again!

Re: Meyer Hatchery

I ordered 25 pullets of 3 different breeds. 11 White Rocks, 11 RIRs, and 3 Speckled Sussex. I got the order and everyone was fine! All fat and peeping. I lost one RIR 2 days later, but they sent an extra White Rock, so it was ok. Now, I have 2 WR cockerals and 1 RIR cockeral, but the rest are still pullets. big_smile

Also, I emailed one of the ladies for about 2 weeks waiting for the White Rocks to be available, and I have never had anyone as nice as her when talking to customer service. She was super super nice, her name was Charlotte. I make sure I tell everyone how nice she was because they seriously have excellent customer service. They may not have a large selection, but I will definitely order from them again.

Re: Meyer Hatchery

Hi Sara,

My one and only hatchery order was from Meyer.  Charlotte was very nice every time I spoke to her.  I ordered 15 assorted rare layers, and separately ordered speckled sussex(2), cuckoo marans (4), GLW, SLW, black australorp, BO (2).  I got in my assortment:  golden campine, dominique (3), glw (3), slw, golden phoenix (3).

One chick was DOA, and two were really weak and died shortly after.  The rest are now 2 months old and healthy and growing well.  They are all nice birds.

I chose Meyer because it was one of the closest hatcheries to me that had most (but not all) of the chickens I wanted. Hope this helps!

Re: Meyer Hatchery

My chickens are now 8 1/2 weeks old and everyone is getting big and healthy. Meyer shipped the chicks quickly, all arrived healthy and happy - NO Deaths - I also had no troubles with them drinking or eating.

They have excellent customer service, Charlotte is friendly and very helpful.

Sexing seems to be within the 95% guarantee (allows 1 per 25), I have a SLW that I suspect is a roo, but everyone else looks to be sexed correctly.

All the chicks were vigorous, pretty friendly, and pretty energetic. I have no problems using them again, the only difference is I think I would order at least 5 of each breed instead of 2 (allows a better sample of the breed)

Re: Meyer Hatchery

Thanks, I was thinking of trying them since they are closer to me than some of the other hatcheries.  I used Ideal, and everything is great, but Meyer has some good deals on assortments of chicks.

Re: Meyer Hatchery

I had a great experience with Meyer -- I called customer service one time because I was confused about shipping dates, and they were very nice about it. They sent my feed and waterers right away so everything was ready when the chicks arrived. I ordered 26, and there was one dead one in the box... and I got 31 chicks!! ep

So it was a good deal and I was very happy, though I had no idea which were the extra chicks and which were from the "assortment." In the future I probably won't order an assortment so I don't have this issue (I'm assuming the extras were probably roos, and I would like to have known which they were). My BO is looking rooish, and I don't know if he is an extra or a missexed pullet.

I kept 14 and gave the rest away, and they are all healthy and strong at six weeks old. If I order chicks again (thinking of trying to hatch next time) I will probably use them again. They're our closest hatchery, and I like their breed selection.

18 chickens: 3 Delawares (Betty, Babs, and Bess), 2 Speckled Sussex (Donut Lover and Martha), 2 Partridge Rocks (Louisa and Abigail), 2 Barred Rocks (Eleanor and Uno), 2 Black Jersey Giants (Nancy and Ladybird), 2 Rhode Island Reds (Rosalynn and Pat), 2 Easter Eggers (The Michelles), 2 Golden Comets (The Lucies), and a Buff Orpington Rooster (Jimmy). And two human boys and a cat!

Re: Meyer Hatchery

I used Meyer Hatchery for two reasons
1)  They were somewhat close
2)  No minimum quantity requirements (although an extra fee applies for orders less than 25)

I received the 5 chicks I ordered plus an extra all in great shape and the expected arrival date.  The customer sevice was great.  The chicks are now 10 weeks old and very healthy.  I think the extra is a girl too!

I have to agree with both of you! Charlotte was amazing to talk to. She emailed me for a couple of weeks and then let me know that the White Rocks were having a special hatch about a month before they were supposed to start selling them! She told me that if I needed a breed they didnt have, then by all means, go to another hatchery, but make sure to come back because they would love to help me out. Charlotte is what made me stay, because she was super nice.

Goes to show how important customer care is if you want to keep your customers coming back for orders and spreading good words.
