Pic Of The Week Information

Welcome to the Picture Of The Week (POW) Information Thread!

If you want to see the previous POW's click here: http://www.backyardchickens.com/images/gallery/

Here is info on submitting the POW:

Your submission MUST:
Include your username:
Include a short sentence about your chicken (name, breed, age):
Be a sharp, clean, picture of your chicken:
Agree that we could use it in a calendar if we want to:  smile

How we choose the POW:

We usually post them in first come first posted basis, but keep in mind that:

1)  We're very picky about the quality of the pictures we post.  This is the first thing people see when they get to BYC and the forum!  We don't want grainy / fuzzy / blurry pictures.  Also, the focus of the picture should be on the chicken.

2)  When we have a lot of submissions we'll gravitate to "better" pictures first (and we do get LOTs of submissions)

3)  When we have a lot of good quality pictures submitted (like right now) it may take a little while for yours to get posted.

4)  We've posted pics of chickens and people before, but we've got so many submissions lately that we're focusing on pics of chickens.

In general, submit fun, clear, good pictures and please be patient with us as we post them.   Remember, we get about 15 submissions a week and we pick them in order submitted and by quality.

So, you still want to submit a pic to the BYC POW?

Submit the pictures by email it to support@backyardchickens.com

UPDATE NOTE:  We get about 10-20 POW submissions per week.  If you do the math, that makes the list really long and a really long time before someone's pic is posted as the POW.    Instead of making it so you have to wait 10 years before your pic is posted here's what we do:

1)  We first filter out pics that are blurry, dark, grainy (e.g., from camera phones).
2)  We then highlight the top 30% based on how good and original the picture is.  This is the main pool of pictures from which we pull our POW.
3)  From there it is usually first come first served.
4)  Even filtering out about 80% of the pics we're still left with a very long list of great pictures, so please be patient.

If your pic isn't chosen for the POW please don't take it personally... we are just forced to choose from a VERY long list of great submissions.

Re: Pic Of The Week Information

Yup, there aren't usually themes, but if there are we'll let people know in advance.

I usually get the most submissions for the POW, but any staff member can update it.   We usually post them in first come first posted basis, but keep in mind that:

1)  We're pretty picky about the quality of the pictures we post.  We don't want grainy / fuzzy / blurry pictures.  Also, the focus of the picture should be on the chicken.

Re: Pic Of The Week Information

All submissions need to be emailed to nifty @backyardchickens.com

(well, unless I forget to do it... If you don't see a new POW by mid-day Monday, shoot a link to the image to a Moderator and they can do it)

Re: Pic Of The Week Information

Would it be possible to put a title under the Picture of the Week on the home page so we know what kind of chicken is being featured? smile
